All trainees are expected to come correctly equipped with
personal clothing and equipment. The club does hold a number of wet suites for youth members. If you wish to use these please ask the
instructors at the enrolment evening.
Personal Clothing and Equipment
Requirements
All participants
in club sailing must wear a suitable and correctly fitting buoyancy aid.
Other clothing
required:
Wet suit
Footwear that can
get wet
Swim wear
Wind proof or warm
top or sailing suit
Hat
Sailing gloves (if
you wish)
Post sailing
requirements:
Towel and shower
gear
Warm clothing to
change into after sailing
Bag for wet clothing

Warm drinks and
snacks are available during the training sessions from the galley in the
signal station.
(It is a good idea
to take a bottle of water to drink afloat with you)
Private Boats
The club owns a
number of dinghies that are used for training.
Club members whose
family members undertake training are encouraged to use their own boats during the
sessions enabling those starting the sport to use the club's boats
Where private craft
are used during the training sessions the owners are responsible for
ensuring the craft is seaworthy and correctly fitted out for sailing. It is
a requirement of membership for all boats used at the club to be insured.
Additional Equipment
In addition to the
basic clothing and equipment you may wish to have:
Sailing gloves
Sailing boots
As you progress in
your sailing to sailing the more performance boats you may wish to
purchase your own harness.
Security
Although
every effort is made to ensure the security of personal property, Lee on the
Solent Sailing Club and its instructors take no responsibility for personal
property left on club premises. The male changing room is now fitted with a
security combination lock to reduce the risk. The club strongly recommends
that all personal effects belonging to youth trainees (cadets) should be
clearly marked with the owner's name. Whilst afloat the cadet's personal
effects are the responsibility of the accompanying parent.
