Rear Commodore's Jottings - March 2004

For the last few weeks my Saturday mornings have been spent in the gents changing room at the signal station!!

This weekly visit has been to see how the revamping of the said changing room is progressing. After the last working party, we discovered the showers were in a sorry way and leaking which in turn lead to the wall having a damp problem!

In to the breach stepped Jim and Paul who with much enthusiasm have been working to fix the problem. The tiles have been removed ( that was the easy bit and I could help there). The wall has been sealed and re tiled , re plastered and here is where I come in and re - painted, We even had a topping off ceremony when the last tile went on!! Celebrated by much coffee. Finally a good clean up and the changing room looks great! Now I would like to say a big THANK YOU to Jim and Paul for the weekends and the evenings they have spent down there It can get really cold working down there ! There is also a new inner door which has a security code to open it, please ask the sailing committee who will advise you on the new code! This should hopefully deter our casual un - welcome visitors.

Another thank you goes to Jim Haines who has re-painted the signal station club sign. When it is put up at the next working party it will complete the new posh looking facilities at the signal station.

Race officer talk

WE spent an informative evening on the 10th March, being guided by Nigel on being a race officer, this gave some discussion and food for thought. Our next talk is on the 31st March at 7:30 by the RNLI and is about safety at sea as well as a practical demonstration of how to correctly use flares . All welcome . A collection will be made for the RNLI who support us all !

WE have one more working party on the 27th at 10am, and we hope to repaint the mast as well as renew the boards that the toppers sit on. I am looking for a van or large to trailer to help get the scaffolding boards down to the signal station from Gosport. Any offers please contact me. We kick off the sailing season with our fitting out supper on the 27th at 7:30 for 8pm, this is an informal event ( sausages and mash and some sea shanty singing ) for the price of £ 8 a head List is behind bar. Than the first sailing event is the Brass Monkey on the 3rd of April at 14:30 Boats can now be put back in the compound as work has been finished See Will for your berth number.
