Frequently Asked Questions Do I need sailing experience? No, Lee welcomes both experienced sailors and novices. If you are interested in learning to sail, joining a club is the best way to start. Do I need a boat? No, crewing jobs are normally on offer plus the Club has a number of boats that members may hire. Is there a waiting List? No, not at the moment as the Club is expanding. Is there a joining fee? Yes, applicable to sailing members only. more information Can I sail at Lee without becoming a member? Yes, you may sail at Lee on six occasions during one year and there is a fee of £5 per day, before you are required to become a member. As boat storage space is limited boats must be taken away on each visit. Can I join Lee on a temporary basis? Yes, for details contact the Membership Secretary. more information Can I bring a friend to the Club? Yes, you may bring friends to the Club, however if this exceeds six visits by any one friend then membership is required. All visitors must be signed into the visitors book. When is safety cover available? During all club races and Saturday training, at least one patrol boat equipped with a VHF radio will be on the water. Can I use the facilities when there is no club racing? Yes, members may use the changing rooms and keys are available to purchase at the bar. However safety on the water is your sole responsibility. How is club racing organised? Boats are split into fleets, based on their Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) rating. The fleets are Fast, Medium, Slow & Super Slow and start at 3 minute intervals on a Saturday. Sundays have the Short Course Series with one all-in start. Do I have to do club duties? Yes. The smooth running of club racing relies on members carrying out race duties. Duties will be either in the patrol boat or as part of the race organisation. Do I have to race? No. However if you do go out while a race is in progress, you should keep clear of all boats which are participating. Can I hire boats? Yes. There a number of club owned boats for hire by sailing members. There is a small fee charged on a daily, half daily or per race basis to cover maintenance. more information
