Club
Boats
The sailing club owns a number of dinghies which are
used for the training sessions and are also available to hire by
club sailing members for either racing or informal sailing.
All those wishing to hire the club boats are required
to be qualified to least the RYA Dinghy Level 2 Basic Skills award.
The boats available include:
6 Optimists (Many of
these have shared ownership and are not available for hiring)
2 Wayfarers
1 Laser 2000
1 Laser 3000s
1 Mirror
2 Lasers
7 Toppers
1 
Boats are hired at the
following rates (under review and subject to change):
Adults £10 per day or £5 per
half day.
Cadets £8 per day or £4 per half
day.
Boats may be hired for racing at a charge of £2 per
race.
These fees are used towards the maintenance of the
boats.
PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE
FOLLOWING:

Club boats may only be hired by adult LOSSC
sailing members holding the RYA Level 2 / Basic Skills certification.
Other members who are undergoing training and wish to gain additional
experience may be permitted to hire a club boat with agreement of one of
the club sailing instructors on the day of the hiring.

Club boats may only be
hired during times when the signal station is manned and a member of
the sailing committee is available (unless special arrangements are made
prior to hire period).

All hirings MUST be authorised by the duty
sailing committee member (or if unavailable any sailing committee
member) and fees paid before use. All hirings must be recorded in the
club boat hiring book kept in the signal station.

The duty sailing committee member when agreeing the
hiring may restrict the usage of the craft or the sailing area as deemed
appropriate for the prevailing conditions, experience of the helm and/or
crew, etc.

When hiring club boats it is the hirer's
responsibility to ensure any problems or damage to the boat is notified
to the duty sailing committee member before going afloat.

The hirer is responsible for the boat and its
equipment, together with the safety of the craft and crew, with due
consideration to the weather conditions, sailing area, experience of the
crew. The number of crew sailing a club boat is limited to the
recognised maximum crew numbers for the class of boat (i.e. Topper and
Laser - 1 crew, Laser 3000 - 2 crew, etc).

Buoyancy aids are to be worn at all times (in
accordance with LOSSC rules).

If
in the opinion of the duty sailing committee member, duty race officer
or any LOSSC flag officer the hirer is deemed to be misusing the club
boat or sailing in a manner that is thought to endanger the craft,
its crew or other craft, the hirer will be instructed to immediately return
the boat to the club compound.

All damage, loss or other issue with the boat
and its equipment occurring during the hire period is the responsibility
of the hirer. All such matters MUST be reported to the duty sailing
committee member at the earliest opportunity. The repair / replacement
of any damage, loss or other issue is the responsibility of the hirer
and must be undertaken at the earliest opportunity or at a time agreed
by the duty sailing committee member. If any damage or loss is found
subsequent to the hiring the hirer may still be deemed to be responsible
for repair / replacement.

LOSSC reserves the right to refuse the use of
any club boat for hire.

LOSSC reserves the right to refuse individual
club members the use of club boats.
Please ensure when using as
club boat for racing that the race officer has logged your name against the
boat's sail number. If you fail to do this your race results may not be
properly accredited.
