After two years of high winds and low turnouts, the Solstice Regatta was in the last chance saloon. Would it entice sailors out for three evenings of chess on the water, or would it be confined to the box marked ‘The good old days’? Tuesday was promising: a lovely day, flat water, off-shore breeze. We waited with trepidation, but no worries: 23 boats ventured out – the best turnout in years. Conditions were even better on Wednesday and again there were more than 20 boats, and it was the same on Thursday.
